THE National Taxi Association and the Route Taxi Association of Jamaica have congratulated Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller on her recent victory at the polls, and have requested a meeting as soon as possible with the new transport minister.
“We are looking forward to working with you and the new minister of transport and works with a view of enhancing the sector,” a news release this morning said.
“We wish to pledge our full support to help in whatever way that we can to foster mutual relationships throughout the sector with all stakeholders.”
The taxi groups said they are requesting a meeting with the new minister of transport as soon as possible to highlight some issues that has been plaguing the sector for some time, namely the attitude and mode of operations at the Transport Authority.
“The sector has had a very tumultuous three years under the leadership of the Daniel Dawes-led Transport Authority and is in urgent need of retooling and a new direction. The very viability of the sector is threatened at this time and urgent action is needed to rescue same.
“We are of the belief that if the sector is to remain calm these issues must be addressed forthwith.”
